Making contaminated property "useable" again will be the focus of a forum Wednesday, hosted by the state Department of Health. The theme of the Hawai'i Brownfields Forum, scheduled 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Ala Moana Hotel, Garden Lanai, is "Removing Obstacles and Creating Incentives for Redeveloping Brownfields." The brownfields movement encourages and facilitates cleanup and redevelopment of sites contaminated by hazardous substances, pollutants, or other contaminants. Free. A demonstration ride aboard the state-of-the-art twin-hulled Navatek cruise vessel will be open to the first 80 people attending the PLUGGED-IN NETWORKING MIXER, hosted Thursday by the Hawai'i Science and Technology Council. The ride on the small waterplane area twin hull vessel is scheduled 4:30-5:30 p.m., before the 5:30-7:30 p.m. business networking event at Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant at Aloha Tower Marketplace. The ship will open for tours during the mixer. Fee; non-council members welcome. Reservations: 536-4670.
FRIDAY
A business "craft fair" trade show with an emphasis on arts-related businesses — scheduled to coincide with the monthly First Friday downtown arts tour — will be held 4-9 p.m. Friday, sponsored by the Hawai'i Women's Business Center. Also on hand will be experts from HWBC advising how participating businesses can benefit from more exposure.
