'Swords capture Alaska tourney

Trina Kauliakamoa had 22 kills and 20 digs, and Evelyn Bluthenthal added 12 kills and 20 digs as Chaminade upset No. 8 Nebraska-Kearney (6-1), 30-18, 30-25, 28-30, 30-24, in the first of two matches Saturday at the Nanook Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska.
In the second match, Brittnee Fonnesbeck had 15 kills and all-tournament selection Kauliakamoa added 14 as the Silverswords defeated Alaska-Fairbanks (1-5), 30-27, 30-18, 29-31, 30-17. Tournament MVP Tamara Kauliakamoa had 52 assists in the victory for Chaminade (5-2).
The Silverswords won the Nanook Classic, going 3-0 in the two-day tournament.

HAWAI'I WOMEN OUSTED IN FRANCE
Hawai'i surfers Megan Abubo, Rochelle Ballard and Keala Kennelly were eliminated from the Rip Curl Pro Mademoiselle yesterday.
The third round and quarterfinals were completed in 1- to 2-foot waves at Seignosse, France.
Abubo lost in the quarterfinals to defending world champion Chelsea Georgeson of Australia.
Earlier in the day, Abubo defeated Kennelly in the third round. Ballard was also eliminated in the third round.
The contest is the fifth of eight stops on the 2006 World Championship Tour for women.

MCKIBBEN, JENKINS MAKE U.S. TEAM
Punahou senior Riley McKibben and 2006 Kamehameha Schools graduate Jacob Jenkins will represent the United States at the fifth Swatch-FIVB World Championships for 19-under players, beginning tomorrow in Bermuda.
McKibben and Jenkins qualified by winning an AAU event this summer in California. Both play for Outrigger Canoe Club.
Last year, Joseph Dykstra and Mark Van Zwieten became the first U.S. team to medal in the international event, falling in the gold-medal match to the Slovenian team.
