'Fairfield Five' coming home

Five Hawai'i players on the Fairfield (Conn.) women's volleyball team return home this weekend to play in a tournament hosted by the University of Hawai'i.
The homegrown Stags are junior outside hitter Lindsey Lee (St. Joseph '04 of Hilo), junior outside hitter Jazmin Pa'akaula (St. Joseph '04 of Hilo), junior setter Ashley Hanohano (St. Joseph '04 of Hilo), sophomore setter/defensive specialist Brandi Higa (Hawai'i Baptist '05 of Honolulu) and senior libero Kiana Kauwe (Kamehameha of Honolulu).
Fairfield plays Hawai'i this weekend in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Volleyball Challenge, which also includes Stanford and Northwestern.
Pa'akaula has 988 career digs and will soon be the seventh Stag to reach the 1,000 milestone.
Lee and Hofstra (Hempstead, N.Y.) junior setter Shellane Ogoshi (Roosevelt '04 of Honolulu) were named to the Hofstra/Asics Invitational All-Tournament team this past weekend.
In three matches, Ogoshi totaled 131 assists (11.91 per game), 25 digs (2.27 per game), four kills and three block assists. Lee had 47 kills (4.7 per game) and 39 digs (3.9 per game).
MORE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Hardimon was selected the Fairfield Invitational Most Valuable Player after averaging 4.67 kills and 2.67 digs per game while hitting .292.
FOOTBALL
Also on the team are junior linebackers David Taumalolo (Kaimuki of Honolulu) and James Fisher (Ka'u of Pahala).
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Boise State defeated Montana, 2-1, and lost to Idaho State, 1-0.
Idaho State senior defender Jen Loo (Mililani '03) was named to the All-Tournament Team after leading the Bengals to the title.
Loo scored the Bengals' lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Brigham Young on Aug. 29. She scored in the 27th minute on a free kick from midfield.
Nobriga scored in the 84th minute on a header off a corner kick.
Bickford's assist came in the 86 minute. San Diego State sophomore midfielder Mariko Strickland (Mid-Pacific '05 of Kaua'i) had three shots.
Bethel College defeated Indiana Tech, 4-1, Friday, all on goals from Hawai'i players. Senior forward Lisa Franke (Kealakehe '03 of Kailua, Kona) scored in the seventh minute on a header. Freshman forward Amber Spencer (Kamehameha-Hawai'i of Hilo) scored on a cross from freshman forward Laura Franke (Kealakehe '06 of Kailua, Kona) in the 34th minute and Spencer scored again four minutes later on an assist from Lisa Franke.
Laura Franke scored the fourth goal in the 88th minute.
The Franke sisters scored both goals in Friday's 2-0 win over Adrian College (Mich.).
Laura Franke scored on a volley off a header by senior midfielder Katy Jenkins (homeschooled, from Lawai, Kaua'i) in the ninth minute. Lisa Franke scored in the 66th minute on an assist from senior midfielder JoBette Nabarro (Waiakea '03 of Kea'au).
Also on the team are freshman forward Maluhia Desha (Waiakea of Hilo) and freshman midfielder Mahina Costales (Kamehameha-Hawai'i '06 of Hilo).
WOMEN'S TENNIS
She also was named ITA Rookie Player of the Year for California Community Colleges, All-Coast Conference and team MVP.
Redlands' Jenna Umeno (Baldwin of Kahului), who recently completed her eligibility, was named an ITA Division III All-American for doubles.
