Koby Clemens, son of pitching great Roger Clemens, has been assigned to play in the Hawai'i Winter Baseball League.
Clemens, 5 feet 11 and 193 pounds, is ranked by Baseball America as the top third base prospect in the Houston Astros minor-league system.
He will play for the North Shore Honu.
Clemens, 19, played for the Lexington Legends (Low-A farm team) this past season, batting .229 with five homers and 39 runs batted in.
A former pitcher like his father, Clemens threw two no-hitters in high school. After being drafted in the eighth round in 2005, Clemens moved to third base. He hit a home run off his father in spring training.
The league, which spotlights top minor league prospects in the major leagues, as well as from Japan, opens play Oct. 1.
Another player assigned to the league yesterday was Ian Desmond, a shortstop prospect from the Washington Nationals. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Des-mond, 20, will play for the Waikiki Beachboys.
