Unable to capitalize on its scoring chances, the University of Hawai'i women's soccer team was forced to play its fifth straight overtime game in 10 days last night.

Hawai'i and San Francisco tied, 0-0, in double overtime in the final game of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Soccer Shootout at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Hawai'i is 2-1-2 in its past five games, including a three-game road trip to Arizona, and 5-2-2 overall. San Francisco, which defeated Cornell, 2-1, on Saturday night, is 3-4-1. The Rainbow Wahine have played 508 minutes in the past five games, with 58 overtime minutes. Hawai'i and San Francisco were co-champions of the tournament.

"I thought they played exceedingly well," Hawai'i coach Pinsoom Tenzing said. "We played to win, and I'm pleased with their effort"

The Rainbow Wahine outshot the Dons 27-7 through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute sudden-victory overtimes. UH had 11 shots in the first half to none by San Francisco. Hawai'i had six shots on goal to one for the Dons for the game.

"Our assistant coach came out to scout Hawai'i Friday night against Cornell, and he said they played 10 times better tonight than they did that night," USF coach Pamela Kalinoski said.

Hawai'i played Cornell two days after returning from Arizona, and looked fatigued in that game. Last night, "We came out more ready and wanting it. We came out firing," Hawai'i captain Jessica Domingo said.

"It's ridiculous," she added. "If you can't tell, we're getting a little tired. We can't keep doing this. It will take a toll on us at the end of the season. We have to make those missed shots."

Tenzing said his forwards, freshman Ambree Ako and sophomore Taryn Fukuroku, are young and that he is "hoping it will come with time. They are getting nervous in front of the goal," he said.

Fukuroku had three shots, including one on goal and one that hit the crossbar. Ako had one shot. Midfielder Kelli-Anne Chang took seven shots. San Francisco cleared two Hawai'i shots off the goal line.

Hawai'i's best chance in regulation came with about four minutes remaining when Ako passed a ball to Fukuroku who was running down the right side. Fukuroku's shot deflected off the goalie's hand, hit the crossbar and bounced back into play. Chang shot the rebound toward the goal but USF defender Jessica Duty cleared it off the goal line.

The next minute, USF's Katherine Kimure passed a long ball to forward Chelsea Hunt who was open and able to make a run down the field for her second one-on-one with Hawai'i goalkeeper Kori Lu, but again Lu made the stop.

"We challenged the girls at halftime to send the diagonal balls on the counter-attack," Kalinoski said.

Hawai'i took seven shots to two for the Dons through both overtimes.

Up next for UH is the OHANA Hotels & Resorts Soccer Invitational, its final non-conference tourney. UH plays Detroit, Thursday at 7 p.m. and Cal State Northridge, Monday at 5 p.m.
