Honoka'a High School senior Keisha Kanekoa, a two-time Advertiser All-State basketball first-team selection, has made a verbal commitment to play for the University of Hawai'i in 2007.
Former Honoka'a coach Daphne Honma said Kanekoa, a 5-foot-6 point guard, chose UH over Pacific (Calif.) and also was being recruited by Boise State and Utah State. She visited UH this past weekend and made her commitment before returning home.
Kanekoa led Honoka'a to the 2006 Big Island Interscholastic Federation title and the past two Division I state semifinals.
The first day Kanekoa and other NCAA recruits can sign National Letters of Intent is Nov. 8, and college coaches are not allowed to comment on them until they receive the letters.
