Beach volleyball tourney set for Queen's Beach

Former University of Hawai'i women's volleyball standouts Lauren Duggins and Victoria Prince will be among the competitors at the King and Queen of the Beach volleyball tournament.
The event is tomorrow and Sunday at the Queen's Beach Sand Box in Waikiki.
AVP professionals Scott Wong, a Punahou alum, and Tanya Fuamatu Anderson, who played at UH-Hilo, are also competing in the field of 60 players going for a $6,000 purse.
There is no admission charge to watch. Matches begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. and at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The championship matches are scheduled for approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday.
POLO
NORTH SHORE SEASON WRAPS UP SUNDAY
Team Bacardi USA will meet Hawai'i Polo Inn in the final match of the 43rd season of the Hawai'i Polo Club in Mokule'ia.
Gates open at 11 a.m., with the match beginning at 2 p.m.
Admission is $7, with military members and students with valid ID receiving 2-for-1 tickets.

RODEO
ALL-GIRLS EVENT SET FOR WAIMANALO GROUNDS
The All-Girls Rodeo will be tomorrow at New Town & Country Stables in Waimanalo at 9 a.m.
A highlight of this year's rodeo will be the 3D mixed barrels, a special first-time exhibition event that will have teams of men and women racing against each other, which will offer a $1,000 purse.
Other events include 3D open barrel racing, 3D pole-bending, breakaway roping, dally team roping, steer undecorating, calf mugging, and goat tying.

In last weekend's Aloha Festivals Parade, the Hawai'i Women's Rodeo Association received the Most Outstanding Private Mounted Unit Award and the Mayor's Award for Private Mounted Units.
BOXING
AMATEUR BOUTS SET FOR OCT. 28 AT PALOLO PARK
The second annual Memorial Match Event for Clinton A.J. Shelton will be Oct. 28 at Palolo District Park.
The competition, which will begin at 6 p.m., is open to any boxer, from novices to experienced fighters. All fighters must register with USA Boxing, and the fee is $20 for the rest of 2006.
Weigh ins will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 28 at Palolo Gym.
Admission for spectators is $10, and go to the Palolo Gym to help athletes travel to competitions and buy equipment.
Shelton was an amateur boxer who had a 5-0 record when he died last year.

MAUNA KEA BEACH HOTEL ON TOP 50 LIST
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Big Island was ranked ninth on Tennis Magazine's listing of the Top 50 tennis resorts, which will be in the October issue.
The ratings, issued semi-annually, are based on many factors, including the range and caliber of teaching programs, clubhouse conditions and courts, game-matching, and the quality of each resort.
