TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Jericho," 7 p.m., CBS. Last week's opener offered great promise. We saw small-town life after nuclear blasts in distant cities; we saw quietly earnest people at their best and worst. Tonight's second episode reminds us that a realistic post-nuclear story doesn't always make good drama. As the wind blows toward town, people seek cover. There's nothing compelling about taking shelter or about the slow spread of radiation. Two sub-plots involve town beauties. Jake (Skeet Ulrich) covets Emily, who meets some suspicious guys; teenaged Dale tries to help the rich girl who mocks him. The result is fairly interesting but no match for the opener.

"American Masters: Sketches of Frank Gehry," 9 p.m., PBS. The buildings designed by Frank Gehry are boldly original. From an orchestra hall in Los Angeles to a museum in Bilbao, Spain, they seize attention. Fresh ideas emerge from the quiet Canadian, 77. But how? In this slow, graceful documentary, filmmaker Sydney Pollack traces his friend's life and his work process.

"Bones," 7 p.m., Fox. Booth is in bed with his ex-girlfriend Rebecca when he's called away to view a body at a construction site. Soon, he and Brennan have different accounts of the man's identity.

"The Biggest Loser," 7 p.m., NBC. The second episode of this weight-loss show has "beach week." Contestants play beach games, including a sand-castle contest.

"Dancing With the Stars," 7 p.m., ABC. So far, viewers have ousted Tucker Carlson (the news commentator) and Shanna Moakler (the former beauty queen and Playboy model). Tonight, a third person will leave.

"Lost: A Tale of Survival," 8 p.m., ABC. With the new "Lost" season scheduled to start next Wednesday, here's a recap.

"20/20," 9 p.m., ABC. In a late change, the network is scrapping a "Men in Trees" rerun and inserting this hour. Barbara Walters interviews Terri Irwin, whose husband and colleague, Steve Irwin of "Crocodile Hunter" fame, died Sept. 4 from a stingray barb.
