Pearl Country Club's Regan Lee is scheduled to defend his title at the Turtle Bay Golf Match Play Championship, which starts Monday at noon at Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course.

The tournament, Aloha Section PGA's fifth major championship of the season, begins with an 18-hole qualifier, followed by match play Tuesday and Wednesday.

Lee and Dugal Milne, the defending senior division champion, are automatically seeded No. 1 in match play.

Twenty-three golfers are entered in the championship division and 12 in the senior division. Sixteen championship players and eight seniors will advance from the qualifier to match play.

The championship winner receives $6,750; the senior winner, $3,250.

The match play quarterfinals begin at 7 a.m. and the semifinals begin at noon on Tuesday. The 18-hole finals begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

Last year, Lee defeated Ron Castillo Jr., 4 and 3, to win. Milne beat Ron Kiaaina, 2-up.

JUNIOR GOLF LESSONS OFFERED AT WAILEA

Maui's Wailea Golf Club will offer a series of classes for junior golfers (ages 6 to 17) next month.

The Wailea Golf Junior Clinic, which will feature instructors from the club's pros and the David Leadbetter Academy at Wailea, is scheduled for each Wednesday during October from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Instruction includes chipping, putting, swing, etiquette and rules.

Cost for the four-week clinic is $65. Registration forms are available at the Wailea Golf Club pro shop or by calling (808) 875-5111.

KIMIZUKA PROMOTED TO KA'ANAPALI HEAD PRO

Kendric Kimizuka of Kahului, Maui, has been promoted to head golf professional of Ka'anapali Golf Courses.

Kimizuka, who was first assistant golf professional, takes over for Scott Ashworth, who was promoted to Ka'anapali's director of golf.

Among Kimizuka's duties are the day-to-day management of the Tournament North and Resort South courses. He will continue to give lessons and help coordinate tournaments.
