BYUH stays unbeaten in women's volleyball

Michelle "Tuli" Peters had 23 kills and 19 digs as No. 9 Brigham Young-Hawai'i rallied past Grand Canyon, 29-31, 30-26, 25-30, 30-14, 15-10, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference match at Phoenix, Ariz.
Noelle Filimoeatu added 22 kills and 14 digs, Faylynn Merrick contributed 11 kills and LeeAnn Mapu had 60 assists for the Seasiders (10-0 overall, 6-0 PacWest).
Kaala Lo added 22 digs and Lesina Funaki 15 digs for BYUH, which hit .378 in the fourth game to tie the match.
Dana Edington had 17 kills and seven blocks, and Tonya Rooth added 13 kills for Grand Canyon (7-9, 3-4).
CHAMINADE TOPS HILO
Evelyn Bluthenthal had 18 kills and Trina Kauliakamoa added 15 kills and 11 digs as Chaminade beat Hawaii-Hilo, 30-23, 32-30, 30-23, last night in a Pacific West Conference match at Hilo civic.
Chelsea Powell added 21 digs for the Silverswords (11-3 overall, 6-1 PacWest).
Taina Savage led Hilo (5-10, 3-3) with 15 kills and 10 digs.
SURFING
FOUR TO FOURTH ROUND
Hawai'i surfers Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, Fred Patacchia Jr. and Roy Powers advanced to the fourth round of the Quiksilver Pro France yesterday.
The third round was completed in wind-blown 3- to 5-foot waves at Hossegor, France.
Bruce Irons was the top scorer of the day, receiving a two-wave total of 16.53 (out of 20) in his third-round win.
Andy Irons is the three-time defending champion of the Quiksilver Pro France. He is currently ranked No. 3 on the 2006 World Championship Tour.
Hawai'i's Pancho Sullivan, was eliminated yesterday.
SOCCER
BYUH SWEEPS CU
Jill Haar and Emily Mearns each scored two goals as the Brigham Young-Hawaii women's team beat host Chaminade, 9-0, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference match.
Haar also had three assists and Mearns two for the Seasiders (4-1 overall, 1-0 PacWest).
The Silverswords fell to 0-3, 0-1.
Also yesterday, Michael Akinaka had one goal and two assists as the BYUH men beat Chaminade, 4-0.
Nicholas Vicchrilli, Joshua Barney and Luis Ayala also scored the Seasiders (2-2, 1-0) against the Silverswords (0-4, 0-1).
TENNIS
SEASIDERS ON ROLL
Brigham Young-Hawai'i's Julia Ustyuzhanina and Ramona Husaru combined for five wins yesterday at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Regionals in La Jolla, Calif.
Ustyuzhanina, seeded No. 1 in singles, won a quarterfinal match and Husaru, seeded No. 2, won a quarterfinal and a semifinal. If Ustyuzhanina wins today, the Seasider teammates will meet for the regional title and a berth in the nationals.
In doubles play, Ustyuzhanina and Husaru won two matches to reach today's final.
