TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Top Design" finale (7 p.m.) and "Shear Genius" debut (8 p.m.), Bravo. Ever since "Project Runway" began, Bravo has known how to make a reality competition work. First tonight, it has the "Design" finale. (You can catch reruns of previous episodes at 8 and 9 p.m.) Then "Shear Genius" transplants the formula to hair styling. Again, there are amiably eccentric contestants, varying sharply in look and experience. There are pro judges, a celebrity host (Jaclyn Smith) and offbeat challenges. Tonight's first challenge has stylists working on identical hair on identical dummies. The second has them mixing props and styling for "hair art." The bizarre creations will incite arguments at home.

"Friday Night Lights" season finale, 7 p.m., NBC. This is what the season has been building toward: The Panthers are in the state championship game. Meanwhile, rumors swirl about whether Coach Taylor will take the college job. His wife gets key news and others reach turning points.

OF NOTE

" 'Til Death," 7 and 7:30 p.m., and "American Idol," 8 p.m., Fox. The usual order gets flip-flopped tonight: "Idol" expands to an hour (with Jennifer Lopez singing) and moves back an hour. Before that, " 'Til Death" has its final new episodes of the season. In the first, Joy sets up a romance. In the second, the school year ends.

"Jericho," 7 p.m., CBS. Jake has long suspected Hawkins is hiding something. Tonight, he pushes that and learns of the bomb plot.

"Crossing Jordan," 8 p.m., NBC. Jordan's health has seemed wobbly in recent weeks. Now she's rushed to the hospital for risky brain surgery. As worry builds, her friends try to bury themselves in their work. Woody tries to solve the murder of a key witness.

"In Case of Emergency," 8:30 p.m., ABC. It's a busy night for David Arquette, who also directs his sister on "Medium." Here, he's playing the troubled Jason. He starts to realize that his lawyer is the fiance of Joanna (Lori Loughlin), the doctor he loves.

"Fat: What No One is Telling You," 9 p.m., with forum at 10:30, PBS. Bodies aren't fair, this documentary says. They have anti-starvation devices that shut down the metabolism, fat cells that linger after weight loss, pushing people toward regaining the pounds. "I have to work ... harder, just to maintain this level of chubbiness," says Mary Dimino, who works out three hours a day. This documentary is only adequately crafted, but it has strong personal examples and helpful advice. If a glass is less wide, a study shows, we'll drink less; if a pizza is cut into more slices, we'll eat less.

"Medium," 9 p.m., NBC. Brotherly relationships are key for this episode. The story has Allison's brother (played by Ryan Hurst), a telephone psychic, visiting and becoming enmeshed in her case. The episode was directed by David Arquette, whose sister (Patricia Arquette) plays Allison.

"Lost," 9 p.m., ABC. Jack is back on the island, but he draws instant resentment because he's brought one of "the Others."
