"Bobby," Genius, $28.95
Emilio Estevez writes, directs and co-stars with a remarkable cast in a fictionalized drama centered on a group of people at Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel the night Robert Kennedy was assassinated there in 1968. The ensemble includes Estevez's father, Martin Sheen, Sharon Stone, Demi Moore, Anthony Hopkins, Lindsay Lohan, Laurence Fishburne, Ashton Kutcher, Elijah Wood, Helen Hunt, Harry Belafonte, Heather Graham, Christian Slater and Freddy Rodriguez. This is a DVD that screams for commentary from Estevez, whose family history intersects in small but intriguing ways with the Kennedys. But the DVD comes only with a making-of featurette and a segment of eyewitness accounts of the events that night.
"The Doris Day Collection: Volume 2," boxed set, Warner Bros., $59.92 (individual DVDs $19.97 each)
A second collection of DVD premieres gathers six titles in a boxed set, including Day's debut with the 1948 musical "Romance on the High Seas, a light romp from "Casablanca" director Michael Curtiz set on an ocean cruise. Also in the set is Day and Curtiz's follow-up, "My Dream Is Yours," with Day as a rising singer, teamed in one sequence with cartoon star Bugs Bunny. The other movies in the six-disc set are the Gus Kahn musical biography "I'll See You in My Dreams," with Danny Thomas; the folksy Booth Tarkington adaptations "On Moonlight Bay" and "By the Light of the Silvery Moon"; and "Lucky Me," another tale of a rising star. Each film is accompanied by vintage short films and cartoons.
