Childhood obesity in the United States tripled in the past 25 years, prompting the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to recommend vigorous to moderate activity for at least an hour a day. More exercise can help a child manage stress and schoolwork. But how to adopt a healthy lifestyle if you don't have one? Attend the YMCA of Honolulu's 16th annual Healthy Kids Day, today and tomorrow. The free event features games, sports, health screenings, healthy snacks and a gym bag full of tips on how to raise a healthy child. Where and when: YMCA branches in Kaimuki-Wai'alae (6 to 9 p.m. today), Kalihi (9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow) and Mililani, Nu'uanu and Windward O'ahu (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow). For more information, call 536-3556, or go to www.ymcahonolulu.org.

GREENING IT

SUNSET ON THE BEACH

In honor of Earth Month, this weekend's Sunset on the Beach has a green theme — films on the big screen will be "Happy Feet," left, on Saturday and "An Inconvenient Truth" on Sunday.

The food booths open at 4 p.m., live entertainment by Pohaku starts at 5, and the movie begins not long after sunset, at about 7:30.

The sponsors: Tesoro Hawaii and Hawaiian Electric Co.

FINAL WORD

"They hired (me) a stylist who also does, like, Katie Couric. I've got to say, once you have a person who comes to your workplace with a bunch of clothes for you to try on, shopping the normal way really seems annoying."
