KAPOLEI
Industrial park plan advances
Advertiser Staff
Zoning to turn the defunct Hawaii Raceway Park in Kapolei into an industrial park won preliminary approval yesterday.
A City Council panel gave an OK to rezoning the 66-acre parcel from agricultural to industrial use, despite opposition from some racing enthusiasts who want the city to help revive the racetrack, which closed last year. The full council will consider the plan at a public hearing Aug. 15, but votes at later meetings will also be required before final approval.
California-based HMC Gateway Hawaii Raceway Investors LLC purchased the land last year and wants to subdivide the property into about 90 industrial lots.
