Temari, Center for Asian and Pacific Arts, has a couple of things going on this weekend:

  • The center is prepping for its 25th annual Trash & Treasure Fair scheduled for Nov. 4 at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i. That means it's looking for new crafters who want to participate: Bring five to seven samples of your creations, priced, to Temari, at 1754 Lusitana St., from 9 to 11 a.m. today. They're especially looking for high-quality, one-of-a-kind or limited-production ceramic, wood and paper items.

  • Just what are temari? They're ancient Japanese toys, decorated in intricate threaded patterns. You, too, can create one at a workshop from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow at Temari. Cost is $30, and $15 supply fee for a prepared ball, threads and needles. Bring your own embroidery scissors, metric ruler, colored glass or plastic head pins. Call 536-4566.
