TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Age of Love," 8 p.m., NBC. It's time for tennis star, Mark Philippoussis, 30, to make his choice. Last week was bizarre, with two of the four women dropping out. Maria, 42, quit first; Megan, 21 and afraid of flying, quit when a plane ride to Australia was looming. That leaves two choices. There's the oldest of the original contestants (Jennifer, 48) and one of the younger ones (Amanda, 25).
"White Light/Black Rain," 4:30 p.m., HBO. Calmly and quietly, this film catches the memories of people who were in Hiroshima and Nagasaki when the atomic bombs were dropped in 1945. Also included are reflections by the Americans who dropped the bombs. There are news clips and old photos, some of them quite disturbing. Still, don't expect a political agenda. Instead, this is a moving account of ordinary people at a fierce moment in history.
OF NOTE
"Heartland," 5 p.m., TNT. Dr. Jacobs (Dabney Coleman) slips closer to death. Meanwhile, Dr. Jonas (Rockmond Dunbar) tries a risky procedure when the others are out of town.
"The Closer," 6 p.m., TNT. A killer works in clusters of three. After one murder, Brenda races to stop the next two.
"The Singing Bee" 7 p.m., NBC. This female-oriented hour is an "Age of Love" lead-in. It will strictly involve songs about women or songs sung by women.
"Hell's Kitchen" rerun, 7 p.m., and new episode, 8 p.m., Fox. If you missed the show last week, catch the rerun and skip the rest of this paragraph. That hour saw Jen being bounced, leaving two contestants — Bonnie, 26, and Rock, 30. Then the restaurant was split in half. Tonight, each will design and run a restaurant, with the winner decided next week.
"My Boys," 7 p.m., TBS. Johnny Galecki, who has a great role this fall in CBS' "Big Bang Theory," has a flashy bit here as an annoying chap who made the list of Chicago's 50 sexiest bachelors. The list also includes Brendan, plus a Cubs pitcher (Travis Schuldt of "Scrubs"). PJ is drawn to the pitcher romantically - but knows she shouldn't date someone whom she covers as a reporter. As usual, the story is so-so, but the people are immensely likable.
"Two and a Half Men," 8 p.m., CBS. Berta's daughter is pregnant; Charlie volunteers to confront the boyfriend.
"Fat March" debut, 8 p.m., ABC. Credit ABC for viewing obesity seriously. Just six days after "Shaq's Big Challenge" ended it starts this show. Overweight people try a 570-mile walk to Washington, D.C., accompanied by fitness experts.
"Rules of Engagement," 8:30 p.m., CBS. In a fairly good episode, Jeff's wife hates seeing him go ga-ga over a young woman. She challenges him to remove his ring and go to a singles bar.
