Cherney shot 77 to beat Honolulu's Wendell Kop and Frank Manuma, and California's Jim Ono by a shot. Manuma birdied the second playoff hole to earn the alternate spot over Kop.

Cherney will go to Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kan., for the national championship, Sept. 1 to 6.
