Free fest at Hawaii Prince

Hawai'i Prince Golf Club will hold a "Play Golf America Day" Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free golf festival is open to the public and features 10-minute "one-point" lessons from local PGA professionals, clinics, equipment demo areas, contests, prizes and other events. All ages and abilities are invited.
Prince will also have free readings on AccuSport Launch Monitor, "Big Break" activities and free snacks. To register, go to www.playgolfamerica.com.
SR. AMATEUR QUALIFIER
Ron Cherney, from Encino, Calif., earned the lone qualifying spot Monday at the USGA's Senior Amateur Qualifier at Makalei Golf Club.
Cherney shot 77 to beat Honolulu's Wendell Kop and Frank Manuma, and California's Jim Ono by a shot. Manuma birdied the second playoff hole to earn the alternate spot over Kop.
Cherney will go to Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kan., for the national championship, Sept. 1 to 6.
