While most college students took time out for easy summer jobs and a bit of a breather, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising student Danielle Gosiaco, 19, decided to spend her summer immersed in designing her own line.

She'll be showing off her summer's work with a fashion show at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, Lanai Ballroom.

"This show is just to show everyone — family and friends here on the island — what I can do," Gosiaco explained. The collection consists of about 15 pieces, all for women, in voile, linen, jersey knit, cotton blends and tweed. "My collection can be described as ladies wear that can be worn in the day as well as the night, something quick and easy to put on but very sleek, sexy and fun."

Also on the runway will be edited collections from Oti-s, an up-and-coming surf-inspired line, and Deep Roots, urban casual wear. Tickets (including light refreshments at noon): $25. Information: simplicity_87@yahoo.com.

It's an opportunity to refresh and recycle wardrobe items by swapping them with other fashionable Honolulu women.

Bring your gently used or new clothing, and it will be sorted during lunch. Then you'll have an opportunity to dive in and see what treasures you may find. Unclaimed items will be donated to the Leeward Domestic Abuse Shelter.

Bamboo Sky Boutique co-owner Shane Breeden is throwing a free end-of-summer, indoor-outdoor party that's also a trunk show and sample sale, 3 to 7 p.m., tomorrow at the boutique and under a big tent at 401 Kamake'e St. Local designers will be on hand with their discounted clothing and accessories, and sample stock from Los Angeles clothing reps will be on sale. The Wedding Café will provide desserts and teas, and Hawaii in Style TV will be there to film the party.

MADE IN HAWAII FESTIVAL

More than 420 booths will celebrate the 12th Made in Hawaii Festival today through Sunday at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall. In addition to all the foods, plants and whatnots from six islands, there will be a variety of jewelry, clothing and accessories designers displaying their wares.

Among the jewelry treasures will be Ni'ihau shell lei by Kalei Pupu O Niihau. Denise Tjarks, who recently moved to Kaua'i, will have a booth for her hand- made handbags, belts and other accessories.
