A Big Island grand jury has indicted a 48-year-old woman for first-degree negligent homicide in connection with a Feb. 9, 2006, traffic collision that killed a Volcano man.
Police said a Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park woman was traveling north on Hawai'i Belt Road in a 2003 Honda two-door sedan near Glenwood when she turned left to get onto Lehuanani Road and collided with a Suzuki motorcycle traveling south on the highway. Jack M. Napeahi Jr. died in the crash.
Rita Pregana allegedly caused Napeahi's death while operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the indictment.
