Police yesterday were looking for a man who broke in to a dormitory on the University of Hawai'i-Manoa campus and attempted to use his cell phone to photograph a woman in the shower.

The woman reported the incident to campus security shortly after 6 a.m.

She said she was taking a shower and saw a man trying to take a picture of her with his cell phone.

She screamed and he ran. He was chased by other Hale Kahawai dorm residents, but escaped, said UH-Manoa spokesman Gregg Takayama.

Campus security issued a crime alert early yesterday morning and the Honolulu Police Department is looking for the man, Takayama said.

He was described as 5-foot-8, 160 to 180 pounds. The man had crew-cut black hair and a tan complexion. He was wearing a dark T-shirt and khaki shorts.

Hale Kahawai is a coed dormitory on East-West Road on the Manoa campus. There are about 150 residents in the dorm. The first and fourth floors are occupied by male students and the second and third floors by female students.

The entrances to Hale Kahawai can only be opened by key, Takayama said.

"We have never had a problem at this hall. This is the first time something like this has happened there," Takayama said.

Yesterday's incident follows a break-in and an assault on campus earlier this week.

On Monday, 20-year-old Mark Andrew Heath, a soldier assigned to the Army's Stryker brigade at Schofield Barracks, was charged with unauthorized entry and first-degree burglary following a break-in reported at the Lokelani dorm building at 2579 Dole St. on Sunday.

Police said he had stolen property from the dormitory, including women's underwear and an iPod, according to court documents.

Heath had allegedly opened the door and entered a fourth-floor unit of Hale Aloha Mokihana. A woman resident and her boyfriend were in the room at the time.

Police said the boyfriend chased down Heath after he fled from the room.

Another dorm resident identified her pink iPod nano and underwear, which were found in Heath's possession, police said. The items had been stolen sometime that weekend, the woman told authorities.

Also on Monday, a 21-year-old Ma'ili man was charged for allegedly fondling a female student at the UH-Manoa music building.

Preston-Paul Afong was charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault.

Afong allegedly followed the woman from Puck's Alley to the music building.
