This week, a "Healing Field" memorial on Richardson Field at Pearl Harbor will be covered in 3-by-5-foot flags on 8-foot poles standing in rows, similar to a display at Arlington National Cemetery, to mark Friday's 66th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Officials said a large U.S. flag will be raised in honor of each of the 2,408 U.S. casualties during the attack. The Healing Field memorial at Richardson Field overlooking the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor is in memory of the lives lost on Dec. 7, 1941.
In addition, a display of 150 Hawaiian flags will represent casualties — Hawai'i residents and military deployed from all Hawai'i installations — in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
Event details: Marking the grid on the field, tomorrow; flag set-up begins, Wednesday; dedication ceremony, noon Thursday; field open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
TRIPLER'S TREE TO BE LIT TONIGHT

Gen. Carla Hawley-Bowland, medical center commander; presentation of awards for the best-designed holiday card; and presentation of the command and colors. The commanding general and a preselected volunteer will do the honors of lighting the tree, which will be followed by holiday caroling.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Kyser Auditorium, just inside the oceanside entrance.
