Transferring some of her basketball skills over to another court, Campbell senior Vaiolagi Confer ended her high school volleyball career as one of the best in her division.

Confer, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter, was named the OIA White Conference West Division Player of the Year after a vote of division coaches.

She becomes the second straight Saber to win the honor; recent graduate Shelei Murray-Thornton was the division's Player of the Year last season. Campbell coach Kaui Alohikea-Betham said her team looked to Confer to fill the void left by Murray-Thornton.

"We were aiming toward that, we thought Vai would have the same opportunity to do what Shelei did," Alohikea-Betham said. "She's a basketball player, so she already had the hops, she jumps well. She just had to work on her strength and her speed."

Confer helped the Sabers win the West Division and finish with a 9-5 record.

She is joined on the division's all-star first team by fellow Sabers Amber Kaulia and Randy Schoeing, Waialua's Kimberly Meyerowitz and Klleirr Tuyay, and Waipahu's Kawehi Doo.

Kaulia is a 5-6 senior setter and Schoeing a 5-6 junior libero.

"Amber learned how to set as a freshman, and it's a hard position," Alohikea-Betham said. "Randy never complained and was a team player."

Meyerowitz, a 5-5 senior, is a repeat first-team selection. Doo (5-5) and Tuyay (5-4) also are seniors.

Alohikea-Betham was named Coach of the Year.
