Golf talk on juniors: On Saturday's Emily Gail Talks Golf, Big Island topics will include a look back at the inaugural USA Hawai'i-Japan Junior Cup and a discussion about the Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association's impact on players such as Kimberly Kim, Henry Park and Tamara Surtees, who recently committed to Santa Clara. Noa Galdeira, director of golf at Big Island Country Club, will also be a guest. The club was ranked fifth in GolfWeek Magazine's list of Best Courses to play in Hawai'i. The show will air at 7 p.m. on ESPN AM 790 in Kona and AM 850 in Hilo.
Patriot Golf Day: The inaugural Patriot Golf Day, held Sept. 1 at more than 3,200 facilities across the country, raised more than $1.1 million to help support the families of wounded and fallen soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan. The 2008 "Patriot Golf Day" will be Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.
Boise Open set record: This year's Albertsons Boise Open, which included Hawai'i's Tadd Fujikawa on a sponsor exemption, set a Nationwide Tour record with a charity donation of $2,026,000. The tournament has given $8,421,439 to Boise area non-profits since its inception, which sets the standard for the tour's charitable giving.
