  • The Pacific Gateway Center has been chosen to receive a $1 million grant from the Weinberg Foundation. The funds will aid in construction of the Paradise Enterprise Center, a retail incubator project to support small crafters and ethnic artisans by providing a business center, technical assistance, training for small businesses, and retail space.

  • A recent grant from Kaulunani, an urban forestry program of the state forestry division and the U.S. Forest Service, has enabled the D.T. Fleming Arboretum to make a number of improvements. These include the planting of 250 seedlings, among them 51 native species, 12 of which are new to the arboretum. The new plantings have drip irrigation. Also added were 175 upgraded tree labels on galvanized stakes.

  • The American Cancer Society's Hawaii Pacific Division has received donations from the Bretzlaff Foundation, Friends of Hawaii Charities, ABC Stores, Julia Temple Davis Brown Foundation, A&B Foundation, Antone & Edene Vidinha Charitable Trust, and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation's Educating the Heart program.

  • The Entrepreneurs Foundation of Hawai'i has awarded a grant to Family Promise of Hawai'i. The funds will aid the development of its newsletter, Web site and other community outreach efforts. The grant was made possible by the sale of Hoku Scientific stock the company had donated before its Nasdaq initial public offering in 2005. Family Promise helps homeless families rebuild their lives.

  • Kaua'i Lagoons, the new resort real estate community being developed by Marriott Ownership Resorts Inc. and an affiliate of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co., has made a donation to the Kaua'i Food Bank in support of its mission to provide food for the hungry and respond to emergencies.
