ESPN FEATURES KIM

Kimberly Kim, the teen phenom who grew up in Hilo and won the 106th U.S. Women's Amateur golf tournament last year when she was 14 — the youngest champion in the event's history — is recognized in the Feb. 12 issue of ESPN The Magazine.

The magazine, which went on sale Wednesday, features its "NEXT 2007" picks, an annual feature that predicts tomorrow's star athletes. NBA star Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic is the featured rising star, but part of the package is listing the athletes who are "On Deck" — athletes who are on the heels to 2007 NEXT finalists.

The magazine's take on Kim: "Queen of the Greens. Kimberly Kim, 15-year-old golf sensation from Hawai'i, is the youngest champ in history of the U.S. Women's Amateur."

Kim won the title Aug. 13 in North Plains, Ore. She now lives in Arizona.
