ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Killing me loudly

Advertiser Staff

Trigger-happy game geeks can't hardly wait — out next month is Def Jam: Icon. On this joystick, you play DJ and gangsta at the same time. Urban hombres fight it out on screen and you keep 'em alive with turntable skillz. For example, if your guy is punched to the ground, the faster you scratch, the faster he gets up. And iPods come into play: Icon allows uploaded music from an iPod to play during the game, which triggers interactive "hazards." Watch what happens when you inject some Ghostface Killah. Def Jam: Icon ($60), compatible with Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, will be in stores March 6.

HAWAI'I BY DESIGN

Just two months old, snappy B¬utik already has a shopful of new arrivals from local and Mainland labels — the latest designs from Fighting Eel and a rack of KariJane Threads pieces, such as this spring day of a dress, designed by Honolulu-based Jodi Salmonson. There's also an ongoing sale rack and, best of all, the new Treasure Chest — filled with items that are 50 percent off the sale price. Time it right and you might find a flirty shift for under $20. Owners Lan Chung (half of Fighting Eel) and Landy Cheung make hunting happy.

The Butik: 1067 Kapi'olani Blvd. at Kamake'e Street, 593-4484.

PRETTY IN PIG

Over the New Year's firecracker scene in Chinatown? The DJ cooperative Sisters in Sound oinks in the Chinese New Year on Saturday at the Lotus Soundbar with guest DJs Zita and Dmadness from San Francisco, where they hold down a monthly night at Duplex. The only instructions you need: Dress sexy.

Lotus Soundbar: 2301 Kuhio Ave., 924-1688, $10-$15, 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
