POLICE CRACKING DOWN ON DRIVERS
LIHU'E — The Kaua'i Police Department has announced plans to crack down on drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and on speeders.
Police Lt. Mark Scribner said the department will increase checkpoints around the island this year as part of the "52/12" statewide campaign, and will be checking for intoxicated drivers and for other traffic violations.
In an effort to decrease alcohol-related traffic fatalities, the state Department of Transportation recently implemented a new sobriety checkpoint campaign statewide, "52/12 — You Drink, You Drive, You Lose."
