Driver arrested in bus stop threats

A 29-year-old Punchbowl man was charged yesterday for allegedly threatening a woman at a Kalihi-area bus stop.
Jonathan Navarro, who has three prior criminal convictions, is accused of misdemeanor second-degree terroristic threatening with bail at $2,000.
Police said Navarro and the woman, 46, are not acquainted.
The woman told police a man in a black car allegedly pointed a gun and threatened her at 8:20 p.m. Monday for no apparent reason while she was at the bus stop. The woman provided police with a license number, which turned out to be a 1993 Mazda registered to Navarro.
He was arrested at his home at 8:44 p.m.
MAN CHARGED IN FAMILY ABUSE CASE
A man who allegedly choked a relative, punched another man and dragged another family member was charged yesterday with three misdemeanor counts of abuse of family members.
Taetafe F. Naea's bail is $6,000. Charges of felony abuse and first-degree terroristic threatening stemming from a 3 a.m. confrontation Monday at his home were dropped, police said.
NIGHTCLUB FIGHT LEADS TO CHARGES
A Mo'ili'ili man arrested early Monday morning for allegedly threatening a group of people with a gun during a fight in the parking lot of a nightclub was charged yesterday with misdemeanor terroristic threatening and released after posting $100 bail.
No weapon was found following the 1:10 a.m. arrest of Calvin M. Martinez-Roura at the intersection of Kapi'olani Boulevard and Ke'eaumoku Street, police said. The alleged threatening incident occurred at 1450 Ala Moana.
H-1 CRASH VICTIM WAS FROM TEXAS
The man killed Saturday in a crash on H-1 Freeway near Kapolei was identified Tuesday by the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office as Royce W. Tomlin, 49, of Seagoville, Texas.
According to family, Tomlin had come to Hawai'i for work and was planning to return to Texas early next month for a visit. He has three children.
Police vehicular homicide investigators said Tomlin was driving a sport utility vehicle westbound on H-1 when it crashed into a barrier, sideswiped a Ford Expedition and flipped over. The Expedition hit a guardrail and flipped over.
The crash occurred 592 feet west of the Farrington Highway overpass at 7:15 p.m.
The driver of the Expedition, a 46-year-old man, was arrested for investigation of first-degree negligent homicide and failure to give information and render aid. He was released pending further investigation.
CREWMAN'S DEATH LISTED AS DROWNING
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office determined that a 23-year-old crew member of a catamaran died of an accidental drowning Sunday off Waikiki. The man's name was not being released until his identity is confirmed.
The man was in the water assisting a tour group when he experienced breathing difficulties, police said. A city lifeguard on a jet-powered watercraft helped bring the man to shore after finding him submerged about 50 feet deep, said Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.
He died at Straub Clinic & Hospital.
RANCHER GIVEN 10-YEAR SENTENCE
Big Island cattle rancher Audwin Aiwohi was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, and money laundering.
In addition, U.S. District Judge J. Michael Seabright on Friday ordered forfeiture of a settlement payment of $700,000.
Aiwohi, 43, was part of a conspiracy that transported more than 83 pounds of meth from California over a three-year period ending in 2005, federal prosecutors said.
MAN CHARGED IN WAIPAHU ASSAULT
A Wai'anae man was charged yesterday with second-degree assault following an altercation at a Waipahu-area shopping center in which a husband and wife suffered facial fractures.
Police said Gerald Paakaula, 45, and a teenager assaulted the couple following a minor traffic collision Monday in the shopping center's parking lot. Paakaula's bail is $20,000. The teenager was booked as a juvenile for second-degree assault.
