KAILUA
Another statue of bird stolen

Advertiser Staff

A second bronze statue of an endangered Hawaiian bird has disappeared from its perch on Hamakua Drive.

The moorhen was one of four types of birds created in 2001 for the Gathering Place sculpture. The other birds are the Hawaiian duck, coot and stilt. The moorhen was taken Saturday and the coot was stolen Feb. 19. Four birds remain on the sculpture.

Kane'ohe Ranch Co. LLC is asking for the return of the birds, whose metal value is no more than $30 each.

Kalapawai Cafe & Deli will accept the birds, no questions asked.

Anyone with information can call Marcia Murakami at 263-8912.
