Menlo's Lee MVP of women's basketball conference

Menlo (Atherton, Calif.) junior guard Kepua Lee, a 2004 Moanalua graduate from Hono-lulu, was named the unanimous California Pacific Conference Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row.
Lee's point total (518) and scoring average (19.2) set Menlo single-season records.
In three years, she set Menlo women's basketball career records in points (1,364), field goals made (552) and attempted (1,293), free throws made (222) and attempted (327), and rebounds (578).
Cal State East Bay junior guard Bre Carson (McKinley '04 of Kailua) and sophomore guard Kelci Fushikoshi (Lahainaluna '05) were named to the all-Cal Pac Conference team.
Carson leads her team with an 11-point scoring average.
Fushikoshi averages 10 points per game while making a team-best 39 3-pointers.
MORE BASKETBALL
Willamette (Salem, Ore.) freshman forward Keilyn Fujioka ('Iolani '06 of Kailua) was named an honorable mention all-Northwest Conference selection.
Fujioka averaged team highs in points (10.3) and rebounds (8.3).
Washington University (St. Louis) sophomore guard Shanna-Lei Dacanay (Punahou '05) was named to the University Athletic Association Winter All-Academic Team for earning a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.200.
BASEBALL
San Diego State junior shortstop Troy Hanzawa (Mid-Pacific '03) batted 5 for 16 with two steals and three RBIs in a three-game series against UC Riverside and one against Cal State Fullerton last week.
San Jose State senior outfielder Chris Balatico (Mililani '03) tripled home the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth in a 4-3 win at Loyola Marymount Feb. 23. Also in that series, freshman infielder Brett Hasegawa ('Iolani '06) made his collegiate debut Sunday with a double and run scored in a 15-7 win to help the Spartans take 2 of 3.
Southern Utah freshman designated hitter Bucky Aona (Punahou '06) batted 4 for 10 with three RBIs and a stolen base against Utah Valley State over the weekend.
Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville junior center fielder Justin Ariki (Punahou '04) hit his first home run of the season Feb. 21 against Incarnate Word. He also had a double, triple and three steals in a four-game sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma over the weekend.
South Mountain JC freshman outfielder Cameron Bayne (Saint Louis '06), a 49th-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds last spring, is batting .390 with a .510 on-base percentage through 12 games. He also has nine stolen bases in 10 tries.
City College of San Francisco freshman outfielder Bryant Katakura (Pearl City '06) went 4 for 11 with four runs and three stolen bases in a doubleheader sweep of Napa Valley College, 8-4 and 11-6, Feb. 17.
Katakura also had two RBIs, two doubles and a triple.
Freshman pitcher Matthew Ko (Pearl City '06) started the second game and got the win, working 5 2/3 innings.
Freshman pitcher Jason Tamanaha (Pearl City '06) picked up the save, going 3 1/3 innings and giving up two runs with two strikeouts and one walk.
Freshman shortstop Andrew Ontai (Leilehua '06) leads the team in doubles with five and is second with 10 runs scored.
Freshman outfielder Anthony Sabog (Pearl City '06) is also on the roster.
Concordia University (Portland, Ore.) pitcher Davin Muramoto (Kalani '03) has three appearances this season with an 0.00 ERA.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Colorado School of Mines sophomore guard Kyle Pape ('Iolani '05) was named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team. Pape was second on his team with 13.7 points per game.
SOFTBALL
Eastern Kentucky freshman third baseman Shyenne Hussey (Kailua '06 from Waimanalo) was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.
Hussey led the team with a .667 batting average as Eastern Kentucky went 3-2 over the weekend. She went 3 for 3 in two games, and also hit four home runs and drove in six runs.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Lewis & Clark (Portland, Ore.) junior forward Gene Rivera (Maui High '04 of Kahului) was named an honorable mention all-Northwest Conference selection.
Rivera set Pioneer single-game and single-season blocking records this year, and led the team in rebounding. He averaged 7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.
MEN'S WATER POLO
Harvard freshman Egen Atkinson (Iolani '06 of Honolulu) was named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Men's All-American Academic Team.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Swimmers from Hawai'i went 1-2 in the 200 backstroke at Saturday's Pac-10 Championships.
Stanford senior Hongzhe Sun ('Iolani '03) won in 1:41.64 and California junior Mark Eckert ('Iolani '04) was second in 1:43.72.
Sun was second in the 100 backstroke (47.08), third in the 200 individual medley (1:46.12) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:26.07) and 400 medley relay (3:07.32) teams.
Eckert was third in the 400 individual medley (3:49.52) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (1:46.61).
Coast Guard sophomore Jack Sauve (Leilehua '05) placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 59.64 seconds at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference this past weekend.
He was 13th in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.79) and swam the 200 individual medley.
Washington University (St. Louis) sophomore Kyle Ota ('Iolani '05) was named to the University Athletic Association Winter All-Academic Team for earning a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.200.
Florida State freshman diver Aleia Monden (St. Andrew's '06 of Mililani) was fourth in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 273.60 and 12th in the 3-meter diving (252.20) at the ACC Championships, Feb. 14 to 17.
N.C. State sophomore Andrew Lester (Moanalua '05) swam a life-time best of 15:35.72 in the 1650 freestyle on the final day of competition. He placed 13th.
Lester also swam a 4:28.84 in the 500 freestyle during the preliminaries for his top time of the season before finishing seventh in the consolation final (4:29.66).
COMMITMENTS
Cousins Keoki Haole (Kapolei) and Kekoa Osorio (Kamehameha) have signed with Southern Methodist University's men's soccer program.
Linebacker Aveni Leung Wai, a 2005 'Aiea graduate who played for Grossmont Junior College, signed with Brigham Young.
Leung Wai was a first-team all-Foothill Conference selection. He plans to serve a church mission before enrolling at BYU.
