2 killed after Jeep, sedan collide

Two Kailua, Kona, men were killed early yesterday in a head-on collision near the 95 mile marker on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway.
Big Island Traffic Enforcement Sgt. Christopher Gali said a Jeep multipurpose vehicle heading north toward Waikoloa passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone and collided with a southbound Mitsubishi sedan.
The driver of the Jeep was identified by police as Richard B. Walsh, 23. A passenger in Walsh's vehicle, a 21-year-old man from Mountainview, was treated for injuries at Kona Hospital and released.
The identity of the 34-year-old Kailua, Kona, man driving the Mitsubishi was not released.

MAN ARRESTED FOR DEALING METH
A 32-year-old Village Park man is facing federal prosecution for allegedly dealing crystal meth while carrying a firearm in Downtown's Weed & Seed district.
Thaddeus K. Hall was arrested Friday at 7:27 a.m. on Fort and South Beretania streets on drug and weapons charges and a $200 misdemeanor warrant. Police said a federal warrant has been issued for Hall for possession with intent to distribute meth and possession of a firearm during a trafficking offense.

7-ELEVEN FIRE UNDER SCRUTINY
The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating a two-alarm fire early Saturday at the Hau'ula 7-Eleven store at 54-132 Kamehameha Highway as "incendiary" or "not accidental," said HFD spokesman Capt. Gary Lum. There were no injuries, and estimated damage from the 12:24 a.m. fire was "at least $20,000," Lum said.

HIKER RESCUED SHORT OF SUMMIT
A 21-year-old man who left 'Aina Haina Saturday for a hike to Windward O'ahu and did not return as scheduled was rescued yesterday about 1,000 feet from the summit in Maunawili.
Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Gary Lum said the man was not injured. His mother called the Fire Department to report him overdue at 12:50 p.m. yesterday.
As firefighters were planning a search, the department's helicopter spotted the hiker. A fire rescue specialist was airlifted in, and the man was taken out at 3:27 p.m., Lum said.

MULTIPLE FELONY COUNTS FOR TEEN
A 19-year-old Kapalama man has been charged with multiple felony counts of stealing and breaking into autos.
Frank E. Silva Jr. is accused of auto theft, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, assault of a police officer, and terroristic threatening. His bail totals $200,000.
In addition, his bond for $90,000 bail posted for five auto theft and burglary charges filed Dec. 6 was rescinded by the bail bondsman shortly after his arrest last week.
Silva is scheduled for an appearance in District Court tomorrow.

MAN CHARGED WITH AUTO THEFT
A 23-year-old man arrested Friday at Kahana Bay was charged yesterday with auto theft.
Teddy Munet is being held in lieu of $20,000. Munet fled from police investigating a "suspicious vehicle" at Kahana Bay but was captured in the area a short time later.

WATER MAIN FIXED EARLY YESTERDAY
A 12-inch water main break that left some Hawai'i Kai Towne Center merchants without water service from Saturday afternoon was repaired at 3:30 a.m. yesterday. Water service had been fully restored by the same time, said Board of Water Supply spokeswoman Su Shin.
Road repaving crews were on the scene yesterday doing road resurfacing, she said.
The break fronted the Tesoro Gas Station on Keahole Street. The break did not affect residents, she said.
