The 'Iolani softball team earned a state tournament berth yesterday with a 5-2 victory over Sacred Hearts, and the Raiders' next opponent was on hand and will be out for "revenge" tomorrow.

Kelly Imada allowed six hits and 'Iolani scored three runs in the fifth inning to beat Sacred Hearts in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu game at Ala Wai Field.

"This is such a great relief to us," said Imada, a junior right-hander. "Our team is happy we're advancing to the state tournament."

'Iolani and St. Francis finished the season at 11-3, and will represent the ILH in the state tournament.

They will play tomorrow at Kamamalu Field at 3:45 p.m. to determine the ILH champion and the league's top seed in the state tournament.

St. Francis' players and coaches were on hand yesterday to scout the Raiders.

"We're kind of anxious," said St. Francis coach Mark Glushenko. "We lost to them twice as everybody knows. It's kind of a revenge game."

'Iolani coach Chris Shimabukuro said: "I saw them out here scouting our game today and I know they're going to come out hungry. To beat them three times in one season is going to be difficult."

Imada walked one and struck out none yesterday.

"Kelly is not really a power pitcher," Shimabukuro said. "She is always around the plate."

The first six 'Iolani batters reached base in the fifth (five singles, fielding error) as it scored three runs to take a 5-0 lead.

In the second, Sacred Hearts' Corry Abellanida was thrown out trying to leg out a triple. Sydney Vegas followed with a double, but was stranded.

In the sixth, Raiders left fielder Jana Tokuhama threw out a runner at the plate.

"I sent the runners in both situations. It didn't pay off so it's on me," said Sacred Hearts coach Wade Okamura said.
