BUSINESS BRIEFS
Billionaire late in selecting renters

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Japanese real estate tycoon Genshiro Kawamoto said he has received roughly more than 3,000 letters seeking to rent one of eight million-dollar homes in Kahala. Kawamoto plans to rent the homes to needy families for $100 to $150 a month.

The billionaire, who publicized the offer in October, had expected to select tenants this month, but said he is behind schedule and now will try to make final tenant selections by March 17.

Prospective tenants or others wishing to reach Kawamoto can write to him at P.O. Box 15547, Honolulu, HI 96830.

The restaurant will be the second IHOP to be opened on O'ahu by Union MAK Corp.

DECISION ON TV SERVICES DELAYED

A state deadline to decide whether Hawai'i's major telephone company can offer TV services has been delayed until March 30.

The original deadline was Wednesday. Hawaiian Telcom requested the extension — its sixth.

Hawaiian Telcom is seeking a cable franchise license from the state, which would give the company the right to offer video service in Honolulu over its phone lines in competition with Time Warner Oceanic Cable. The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs is reviewing the company's application.

Hawaiian Telcom has said it plans to launch the Internet-based television service this year.
