Kaloi, Broadfoot will play tennis against UH

UC Irvine sophomore Heidi Kaloi and junior Jessica Broadfoot return home to face the University of Hawai'i and San Diego State in a pair of women's tennis matches this weekend in Honolulu.
Kaloi (Kamehameha 2005), Broadfoot (Punahou '04) and the Anteaters play Hawai'i Friday and SDSU Saturday at the UH Tennis Center.
Kaloi and Broadfoot teamed to win their No. 2 doubles match against San Francisco Saturday, and also won their singles matches. Kaloi beat Jenny Sperry at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-3, and Broadfoot defeated Sarah Oudomvilay, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 5.
MORE WOMEN'S TENNIS
Cleveland State senior Sarah Galon (Leilehua '03 of Wai'anae) went 2-1 in No. 1 singles over the the weekend.
Galon defeated Roxy Ionescu of Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-0, 6-3, and teamed with Charlotte Gibbons to win at No. 1 doubles Saturday.
Galon also beat Tanya Gombera of Akron, 6-3, 6-4, but lost at No. 1 doubles with Gibbons Friday.
Galon lost both her singles and doubles matches against Toledo on Sunday.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
UC San Diego freshman outside hitter Will Ehrman (Punahou '06) led the team with 22 kills in a 31-29, 30-24, 26-30, 30-27 win over No. 14 Southern California Jan. 19.
Ehrman also had a team-high 12 kills in a 30-25, 30-26, 30-21 loss to No. 10 Cal State Northridge Friday.
Stanford freshman setter Kawika Shoji ('Iolani '06) had 45 assists in a 30-26, 30-28, 30-24 loss to Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne Saturday.
Shoji had 31 assists and 10 digs in a 30-27, 30-27, 31-29 loss to IPFW the night before.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Stanford senior Hongzhe Sun ('Iolani '03) won the 200 butterfly in 1:46.51 in a dual meet with Southern California Saturday. Stanford is ranked No. 2 and USC No. 6.
His 400 medley relay team also had an NCAA qualifying and season-best time of 3:13.40.
Sun also placed third in the 200 backstroke (1:49.54).
Junior Noa Sakamoto (Punahou '04) placed fourth in the 1650 freestyle (16:27.55) and sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:00.74).
Florida State freshman Aleia Monden (St. Andrew's '06 of Mililani) finished third in the 3-meter diving event in a dual meet with second-ranked Auburn Saturday. Monden scored 233.25 points.
N.C. State sophomore Andrew Lester (Moanalua '05) won a pair of events in a dual meet against Clemson Saturday. Lester won the 1650 freestyle (16:05.37) and the 500 freestyle (4:34.62).
California-Berkeley junior Mark Eckert ('Iolani '04) won the 200 backstroke in a dual meet with Southern California Friday. Eckert finished in 1:44.06. He also placed third in the 100 backstroke (51.04).
ACADEMICS
Four student-athletes from Hawai'i at the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., were named to its Academic Team for the fall semester.
Boxers Bruno Escalante (Kailua of Waimanalo) and Keola McKee (of Wailuku) and sophomore wrestler Dany Hedin (Kailua) and junior wrestler Sadie Kaneda (Roosevelt of Honolulu) were named to the team.
COMMITMENTS
Punahou midfielder/forward Kim Culver has verbally committed to join the women's soccer team at Cal State-Northridge, said her father, Greg.
According to SoccerBuzz.com, 18 soccer players from Hawai'i have committed to Division I and II programs. They are:
