UH track athletes Murray, Sheppard named all-region

University of Hawai'i senior Novelle Murray and sophomore Emily Sheppard have been named to the all-West Region team as selected by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The two Rainbow Wahine earned the honor based on their top-eight finishes at last week's NCAA Track and Field West Regional in Eugene, Ore.
Murray, of Surrey, British Columbia, finished second in the discus behind Arizona State's Sarah Stevens, a three-event all-region athlete.
Murray, a three-time Western Athletic Conference champion who is currently ranked third nationally in the discus, and junior Annett Wichmann will represent UH in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 6 to 9, at Sacramento, Calif.
Sheppard, a two-time WAC high-jump champion from Vancouver, British Columbia, placed seventh at regionals and just missed out on a jump-off to determine the final two automatic qualifiers to nationals.

UH-HILO ADDS SIX
Cameron Shayler, a 2007 ASSETS graduate, is one of six players who will join the Hawai'i-Hilo men's soccer program for next season, interim head coach Gordon Inouye announced.
Shayler, who played forward for Pac-Five, also played club soccer for AC Honolulu and Vaiete Premier of the MISO league.
"Cameron is one of our local players who can clearly play at the collegiate level," Inouye said.
Also joining the Vulcans program are Dustin Daley, a forward/midfielder for Santiago Canyon College (Orange, Calif.); Daniel Cook, a forward for Servite High School (Anaheim, Calif.); Andy Scott-Webster, a defender for Edison High School (Huntington Beach, Calif.); Luis Lanz, a midfielder/forward for Salpointe High School (Ariz.); and Logan Montenegro, a midfielder for Rio Hondo Community College (Whittier, Calif.).
HPU SIGNS TWO
Hawai'i Pacific has signed two players for its women's program, coach Mark Kane announced.
Kayleigh Paulin, an O'ahu Interscholastic Association All-East defender from Kalaheo High, and Kristina Lite, a two-time all-state striker at Highland High School (Albuquerque, N.M.), will enroll as true freshmen in the fall.
"Kayleigh can play as a forward, midfielder, or in the back," Kane said of Paulin, who played at Twentynine Palms High (DeAnza, Calif.) before transferring to Kalaheo. "Her speed will provide depth in defense and mobility in attack."
Lite led New Mexico in scoring with 28 goals her senior season.
