A salute to armed forces, from all the critters at zoo

Service members and their families can visit the zoo today for free.

Tigers and monkeys and flamingos, oh, my! The Honolulu Zoo is full of critters great and small, and today, Military Appreciation Day, the facility salutes Hawai'i's armed forces and their families and welcomes them for a free visit.

It's happening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also features music, games, activities for kids (including a fishing game, animal mask coloring and temporary tattoos) and a free picnic lunch for the first 8,000 military guests.

Regular admission to the zoo is $8 general, $4 kama'aina, $1 children 6-12 accompanied by an adult.
