Public school enrollment at 49.6 million and rising

Public elementary and secondary enrollment is projected to increase to 53 million by 2016.
In 2007, about 50 million students are expected to be enrolled in public school � 34.6 million in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and 15 million in grades 9 through 12.
SCHOOL FACT
Almost 2.8 million students were awarded a high school diploma in the 2004-05 school year and following summer.
