Two local amateur radio clubs are teaming up for a field day at Kualoa Regional Beach Park.

Members of the Ko'olau Amateur Radio Club and the Emergency Amateur Radio Club will demonstrate their skills at the park from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow.

The groups use low- and high-tech gadgets to talk to fellow amateur radio enthusiasts around the world.

During the day, the radios will operate only with batteries, a generator and solar panels.

"Amateur radio really shines in an emergency, and we'd like the public to come out and see why for themselves," said Jan Mitchell, Ko'olau club spokesman.
