MESA, Ariz. — A privately-run prison opens Tuesday in Pinal County, Ariz., and will house only felons from Hawai'i.
The medium-security prison in Eloy, south of Casa Grande, holds 1,896 beds and will be operated by Nashville, Tenn.-based Corrections Corporation of America.
"This is the first time that the Hawaiians (in Mainland facilities) will all be housed under one roof," said LeeAnn Archuleta, correctional center spokeswoman.
The prison will observe Island holidays and even serve Hawaiian food.
