Dr. Bruce Stevenson has been named executive director and CEO of Pacific Health Research Institute, Honolulu. In his new position, Stevenson will lead a team of scientists and staff in ongoing studies of cancer, diabetes, dementia, Parkinson's disease, neurodegenerative disorders, longevity, obesity, hypertension and heart disease. Before joining PHRI, Stevenson served as vice president of academic affairs at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, Calif.

  • Xerox Hawaii has promoted Kari Ann Hata from marketing programs and project coordinator to marketing representative.

    In her new position, Hata will help new and existing clients to more effectively manage their documents.

    Her sales and marketing territory covers East O'ahu, Waikiki and Waimanalo.

  • William "Billy" Pieper, manager at Beneficial Financial Group's Hawaii Agency in Kailua, has met the rigorous experience and ethical requirements of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board). He has passed the CFP Certification Examination covering the following areas: the financial planning process, risk management, investments, tax planning and management, retirement and employee benefits and estate planning.

    He is responsible for his firm's financial planning and business consulting divisions.

  • Marie Siu is Summa Hawaii's new procurement specialist/operations director. Siu has more than 20 years of experience in the design and construction industry. She will be in charge of materials procurement, project management and preparation of proposals for the company's local hotel and resort refurbishment and consulting projects.

    Siu began her career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, later tackling contract administration with several prominent Hawai'i companies. She was born in Manila, Philippines, and raised in central Honolulu.

  • Damon Yonashiro is the new compliance manager of the Honolulu City & County Employees Federal Credit Union. He is responsible for coordinating the credit union's overall compliance with applicable rules, regulations and statutory requirements.

    Beofe joining the credit union, he worked in various capacities within the legal and financial industries as a certified public accountant, managerial accountant, trust officer and attorney.

  • The American Lung Association of Hawaii has selected Beth-Ann Kozlovich for the new post of development director to lead the agency's fundraising efforts. She will oversee fundraising for special and signature events and will develop an annual giving campaign with major donors.

    Her extensive network and reputation in the community will be an asset in her development work. For several years she hosted Hawaii Public Radio programs, including "Town Square."

  • Sheraton Waikiki recently announced the promotion of Rob Macias to outlet manager for The Hanohano Room. In his new role, Macias will oversee all operations, including service quality, product quality, staffing, outside sales development and marketing, guest experience, entertainment and strategic program development.

    He joined the Sheraton Waikiki in 2006 as assistant outlet manager for The Hanohano Room and has been acting as outlet manager of the restaurant since November 2006.

  • Heide & Cook Ltd., a full-service mechanical contractor and air-conditioning service company, has promoted Lance Kurata and Holly Matsuda to positions within its air-conditioning service department.

    Kurata has been promoted from air-conditioning service department journeyman to assistant service supervisor. He will help the service supervisor provide customers with repair proposals and assist field technicians with technical support.

    Matsuda has been promoted from contract administrator for construction operations to air-conditioning service department contract administrator. She will oversee customer contracts and provide customer accounting services.

  • The Hawaiian Eye Center has hired Tara Hopewell, R.N. and Jolene Alaipalelei for its Wahiawa office.

    As the new director of nursing services, Hopewell brings both medical and managerial experience to Hawaiian Eye's surgicenter. She was previously national operations manager at Kremer Laser Eye Center in Pennsylvania.

    Alaipalelei is a patient services representative at the Center. She most recently worked at Blockbuster in Wahiawa.

  • Two wireless industry veterans with decades of technical experience have recently joined Mobi PCS.

    Mobi executive Russell Lundberg has moved laterally from information technology to be the director of network engineering. He is responsible for all aspects of configuration, demand and capacity engineering for Mobi's fixed network components.

    Michael Guidry is the new director of information technology and billing operations. He is responsible for all internal information systems, external data communications systems and computer technologies that support the cellular network.

  • Pacific Allied Products Ltd. has hired Roger Morey as vice president of sales and marketing. In his new position, Morey will be responsible for sales and marketing in both EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) and PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) divisions.

    Pacific Allied's (EPS) shape molding department creates foam coolers, peanut foam, insulated concrete forms, roofing shakes and surfboard blanks. The (PET) fabrication department manufactures large foam products used in roofing and other construction materials.

  • Hagadone Printing Company has hired Melissa Villaroman as a publications coordinator and Matthew Schulze as a customer service representative.

    Villaroman is a University of Hawai'i graduate and former Realtor associate with Eric M. Watanabe Realty.

    Schulze is a graduate of Elon University in North Carolina and former freelance designer with Corporate Forms & Printing in Connecticut.

  • Commercial Roofing & Waterproofing Hawai'i Inc. has promoted Larry Young to vice president of the project management and estimating division. His duties will involve development of the commercial, industrial, public works and federal sectors. Young has worked in various key positions within the corporation since 1995.

  • Castle & Cooke has hired Ryan Nakata as a civil engineer in site construction. He was previously project manager for the City & County of Honolulu, Department of Design & Construction, and Hono-lulu Board of Water Supply. He is a graduate of the University of Washington.

  • Shooters Film Production has hired award-winning writer-director-producer Gerard Elmore as director of Hawai'i television commercials.

    He has a range of experience in television production, film and commercials. His short film, "Valtor the Great vs. the Universe" won Best Short at the Hawaii International Film Festival. He recently wrapped up a yearlong stint for Crown Royal producing video blogs as a field correspondent on the NASCAR circuit.

    He is a Campbell High School graduate.
