Elderly woman rescued from fire

Advertiser Staff

A man pulled his elderly neighbor from her bedroom window as her house in Makakilo burned late Tuesday night.

Dane "Hoku" Johnasen rescued Dolores Kelly after he heard her screaming for help, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.

The fire was reported at 10:56 p.m. at 92-489 Akaula Place.

"It was a real brave act of rescuing her," Seelig said. "He didn't go into the house, but he managed to pull her out."

Seelig said said the woman had accumulated a great deal of possessions and clutter "that ended up blocking her way out through the front door. She couldn't get out."

The house was destroyed, he said. Damage was estimated at $245,000 for the structure and $30,000 for its contents.

FORMER SOAP STAR GETS OUT OF PRISON

Former soap opera star Brenda Dickson was released from prison yesterday after spending more than three months behind bars for refusing to obey court orders directing her to allow the sale of a Los Angeles apartment that was part of a bitter divorce.

Part-time Family Court District Judge Darryl Choy ordered the release after Charles Kleintop, lawyer for Dickson's ex-husband, Jan Weinberg, wrote to the judge that the apartment had been sold and that Weinberg was withdrawing his objection to Dickson's release.

Dickson spent 16 days at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center earlier this year, then was sent back on April 5. for refusing to vacate the apartment. She had been at the prison then until her release yesterday.
