With her dazzling foot skills and ability to score at any time, Kalani sophomore Tani Costa was a natural pick for the O'ahu Interscholastic Association East Player of the Year.
Costa led the division with 12 goals, twice the amount of the nearest goal scorer. She scored two goals or more against all but one East team in the two-round schedule.
"Tani is really the total package," Kalani coach Ryan Shinkawa said. "From the talent standpoint, she's one of the best players I've even been around. She's physically gifted with great soccer skills, and she has a great attitude. She's humble, has a great work ethic, and she's enjoyable to coach."
Costa's teammate, defender Lyndsee Sugano joins her on the first team.
Moanalua had a division-high three on the first team in forward Vanessa Butin, midfielder Naomi Shimabuku and defender Ashley Dolan.
Kalaheo, Kaiser and Castle each had two first-team picks. Mustangs midfielders Kahili Cheng and Kayleigh Paulin, Cougars forward Rachel Tomita and goalkeeper Carianne Makino and Knights midfielder Tami Kalaiwaa and Krystal Kekauoha were selected.
Kahuku defender Brianne Huddy was also named to the first team. Butin and Huddy are repeat first-team members.
Shinkawa and Castle's Mark Kane were named the co-Coaches of the Year.
