CAMPBELL
Coach: Nathan Macadangdang
Key players: Jenny Sweeney (6-0, sr., center); Vai Confer (5-6, jr., guard/forward).
Notes: Sweeney, a three-year varsity member, provides stability in the middle ... Confer can play multiple positions, handle the ball, rebound and play solid defense.
Style of play: “We’re still looking for an identity, but we have the capability of being a fast team,” Macadangdang said. “We are stressing defense.”

CASTLE
Coach: Jeff McKeown
Key players: Candy Ames (5-2, jr., guard); Niki Kobashigawa (5-2, jr., guard); Ette Ameperosa (5-7, sr., forward); Sarah Phromisiri (5-10, sr., forward).
Notes: Ames is a three-year varsity starter who provides solid ball-handling and leadership. She’s the only returning starter ... Kobashigawa is the defensive stopper .... Ameperosa is versatile and can score inside and out ... Phromisiri is good in the paint.
Style of play: “Since we’re shorter we’re hoping we can push the tempo,” McKeown said. “We’re struggling on offense right now. The more easy baskets we can get the better. We will pressure some. ”

KAILUA
Coach: Ramona Takahashi
Key player: Kristen Corrales (5-4, jr., guard).
Notes: The Surfriders have four returning starters, but only two seniors … Corrales, a three-year varsity starter, is the team’s top offensive and defensive player. She can score from the perimeter and on drives … The Surfriders can go big with two 5-10 players on the bench.
Style of play: “Depends on who we’re playing,” Takahashi said. “That’s a luxury we have since we can be small and big.”

KAISER
Coach: Glen Higuchi
Key players: Chelsea Okuma (5-1, so., guard); Jessica Dusich (5-5, sr., guard); Tiare Kepa (5-5, sr., guard/forward).
Notes: The Cougars have no returning starters and only three returnees (see above) ... Okuma provides speed, ball-handling and energy ... Dusich is team’s best shooter ... Kepa is versatile and brings toughness.
Style of play: “We’ll run when we can and set up if we have to,” Higuchi said.

MCKINLEY
Coach: Bob Morikuni
Key players: Chelsie Sato (5-6, sr., guard/forward); Kaitlyn Ikehara (5-5, sr., guard).
Notes: Sato is a four-year varsity member and an OIA East second-team member last season. She can score, handle the ball and play every position ... Ikehara is a 3-point threat, and a skilled passer and ball-handler.
Style of play: “We have to focus on defense,” Morikuni said. “That’s what will help get us going. The scoring hasn’t come around yet; we’re waiting for that.”

WAIALUA
Coach: Michele Sales
Key players: Chelsey Ramirez (5-7, sr., guard/forward); Kimberly Meyerowitz (5-6, jr., guard/forward); Ashley Carillo (5-5, jr., guard/forward).
Notes: The Bulldogs will use a pressing defense ... Ramirez sees the court well and has good basketball sense ... Carillo is a solid defender ... Meyerowitz is a good rebounder who scores on putbacks.
Style of play: “The majority of the time I’m hoping to get outside shots because we have a small team. We usually can’t go in the middle,” Sales said.

WAI'ANAE
Coach: Kevin Nakamoto
Key players: Danielle Novell (5-4, sr., guard); Melody Moe (5-7, sr., forward); Ngaire Yuen (5-6, sr., forward).
Notes: The Seariders return four starters ... Novell and Moe are both three-year varsity starters ... Novell was second in the OIA White in scoring (15.3) last season. She excels at driving to the basket and from mid-range ... Moe is an inside presence.
Style of play: “We’ll play a little bit of both (uptempo and half court),” Nakamoto said. “It’ll depend on who we’re playing.”

WAIPAHU
Coach: Nadine Villarmia
Key players: Demi Samson (5-4, jr., guard); Margaret Siligo (5-7, sr., center).
Notes: The Marauders have three returning starters ... Samson is the leader and primary ball-handler ... Siligo is a solid rebounder and an inside threat. She’s quick and jumps well.
Style of play: “We wanted to try and run more, but we can’t handle the ball real well yet,” Villarmia said. “We need to work on some stuff.”
