Notes: Medcalf, an ILH first-team selection last season, is one of the state’s most prolific scores. She’s quick, can handle the ball and gets rebounds ... Benito likes physical contact and excels at getting rebounds and setting screens.
Style of play: “At times we’ll be running; at times we’ll be doing some traps and pressing,” Park said. My coaching style is aggressive and I just never had the players or the depth. It’s something different, something new.”

HANALANI
Coach: Charles Hiers
Key players: Janelle Fetui (5-8, jr., forward); Sachi Seaburn (5-8, sr., forward).
Notes: Fetui is the team’s top scorer. She is a solid ball-handler and post
player … Seaburn is a solid rebounder and free-throw shooter … Stephanie Wee, a senior, is the other returning starter … Hanalani will start freshmen Samantha Hyde and Nicole Craig in the backcourt.
Style of play: “We’ll play man-to-man, uptempo,” Hiers said. “We have a freshman point guard and we’ll push the tempo as best we can.”

HAWAI'I BAPTIST
Coach: Reid Takatsuka
Key players: Carissa Onuma (5-5, jr., guard/forward); Adrienne Kishimoto (5-4, sr., guard).
Notes: The Eagles average about 5 foot 4, with 5-9 Leah Shizuru (jr., center) being the tallest player ... Onuma will bring the ball up and play on the block ... Kishimoto is a hard worker and good 3-point shooter.
Style of play: “We’re trying to re-invent our team,” Takatsuka said. “We lost the player of the year (in ILH II, Jodi Kamemoto). We played uptempo and shot a lot of 3s last season. We want to play a transition-style game, but we’re trying to see what areas we can manipulate as far as advantages.”

‘IOLANI
Coach: Reid Sagawa
Key players: Elisa Asato (5-2, sr., guard); Kaz Masutani (5-4, sr., guard).
Notes: The Raiders have three returnees and 10 newcomers ... Asato is the lone returning starter. She is a solid ball-handler, penetrates and plays tough defense ... Masutani is a good shooter, sees the court well and provides leadership.
Style of play: “Because of our lack of height, we’ll play an uptempo game with a lot of ball pressure,” Sagawa said. “We want to make it a fast-paced game.”

KAMEHAMEHA
Coach: Jadine Urasaki
Key players: Jamie-Marie Ferrigno (4-11, sr., guard); Brandi Kohatsu (5-4, sr., guard).
Notes: Ferrigno scores often in transition off turnovers and from the outside ... Kohatsu can score inside and out.
Style of play: “Our team is based on defense,” Urasaki said. “That’s where our strength will be. We’re an uptempo team. I believe in the man press.”

LA PIETRA
Coach: Anthony Czaja
Key players: Megan Giles (5-11, sr., forward); Sarah Peoples (6-2, jr., center); Leah Kaina (5-5, sr., guard); Ashanti Shih (5-6, sr., guard).
Notes: The Lady Panthers have one of the taller teams in the state with Giles and Peoples ... Giles is physical and isn’t afraid to dive for loose balls ... Shih is the top scorer, and is aggressive and versatile ... Kaina is a first-year starting point guard.
Style of play: “I’d love to be up and down,” Czaja said. “We’re not going to score much in transition. We’ll look for the first available good shot. We’re an inside-out team, and we’ll look to shoot more from the outside.”

LE JARDIN
Coach: Arthur King
Key players: Ryann Kurahara (5-5, jr., guard); Kaitlin Kahahawai (5-8, sr., forward); Jessica Shiarella (5-8, jr., guard).
Notes: The Bulldogs are in their second year of ILH DII competition .... Kurahara is the best perimeter player and brings leadership ... Kahahawai is a strong low-post presence.
Style of play: “We’ll be a half-court team; we have a lot of young players,” King said.

PUNAHOU
Coaches: Kevin Velasco, Colin Pacarro
Key players: Kelsie Gomes (5-2, sr., guard); Aubrie Lau (5-4, sr., guard); Brooke Ehrman (5-6, sr., forward).
Notes: Gomes understands the game and brings tenacity ... Lau is a good shooter and likes to dish ... Ehrman has good inside skills and likes to bang.
Style of play: “We play 94 feet,” Velasco said. “We press you either man or zone. We like to run and we hope that we can get you tired midway through the fourth quarter.”

REDEMPTION ACADEMY
Coach: Brian Kealoha
Key players: Kristen Nakama (5-1, jr., guard); Leimana Pila (jr., guard); Hiilani Leimana (fr., center).
Notes: The Warriors have one senior on their eight-player roster.
Style of play: “We’re going to try and probably run. We’ll look to penetrate and defend our basket,” Kealoha said.

SACRED HEARTS
Coach: Alan Matsui
Key players: Raecha-Ann Kauahikaua (5-4, so., guard); Kuhina Luis (5-7, so., center); Cara Smith (5-5, sr., guard/forward); Samantha Valle (5-4, sr., guard).
Notes: The Lancers have 17 players ... Kauahikaua will play the point and push the ball up the floor ... Luis is the top rebounder ... Smith is coming along after missing last season with a knee injury.
Style of play: “We’ll push the ball up and down the floor and depend on our conditioning,” Matsui said.

ST. ANDREW’S
Coach: Ross Kinsler
Key players: Minna Watanabe (5-5, so., guard); Kellee Tom (5-10, sr., center/forward); Maile Tua (5-11, jr., center/forward).
Notes: Watanabe can score from the perimeter and on drives ... Tom is an aggressive post player with a nice game out to mid-range ... Tua has a nice array of post moves and brings intensity to floor.
Style of play: “As of right now we’re not looking at an uptempo game,” Kinsler said. “If the opportunity presents itself we’ll run. We’ll try to take advantage of our size.”

ST. FRANCIS
Coach: Paul Tanaka
Key players: Brianna Batts (5-5, jr., forward); Nicole Perry (5-5, jr., guard); Jamie Iwashita (5-8, sr., forward); Danielle Tanaka (5-2, sr., guard).
Notes: Tanaka, the coach’s daughter, is the primary ball-handler and thinks pass first. She was an ILH second-team selection last season ... Perry is the outside threat ... Batts is an effective slasher ... Iwashita is a threat on the perimeter and inside.
Style of play: “We have an uptempo style on defense and we’ll push the ball a lot,” Tanaka said.

UNIVERSITY HIGH
Coach: Bryan Nakamura
Key players: Ku‘ulei Baba (5-7, sr., guard); Nicole Bareng (5-8, jr., forward).
Notes: Baba and Bareng are the only returning starters ... Baba is a solid scorer and versatile ... Bareng is a solid post and perimeter defender.
Style of play: “We’ll try to be uptempo because we’re not very big,” Nakamura said.

WORD OF LIFE
Coach: Roy Alvarado
Key players: Rayane Alvarado (5-2, so., guard); Brittany Iwamoto (5-10, jr., center).
Notes: The Firebrands have four returnees among 13 players ... Alvarado, the coach’s daughter, will be counted on to provide ball-handling and leadership ... Iwamoto rebounds well.
Style of play: “We were hoping we could have a fast-paced team this year, but with the number of first-year players we’re looking to slow it down,” Alvarado said.
