Arnott passes on UH volleyball

Outside hitter Alicia Arnott, a starter for the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team in 2004, will not play for the Rainbow Wahine this year, the athletic department announced yesterday.
Arnott, who would have been a fifth-year senior in 2007, redshirted in 2006 to preserve eligibility with hopes of playing a larger role on the team in 2007.
A release said "she has decided not to use her final year of eligibility, which would have been the 2007 season."
Meanwhile, the 'Bows will host the Arizona Wildcats for a spring exhibition match on Thursday at 7 p.m.
SAILING
'BOWS FINISH 14TH
The University of Hawai'i women's sailing team finished 14th at the Navy Women's Spring Intersectional that ended Sunday at Annapolis, Md.
The College of Charleston won the regatta with 162 points, followed by Navy (168) and Stanford (172).
Hawai'i finished with 433 points. Crystal Bronte, Darla Baldwin and Pam Magasinn finished 15th in the A division (231 points) and Becky Mabardy, Jackie McLoughlin and Magasinn were 12th in the B division (202 points).
Eighteen teams competed in 36 races, 18 each in the A and B divisions, over two days.
The Rainbow Wahine will sail in the St. Francis Collegiate Invitational in San Francisco, March 31 to April 1.
VOLLEYBALL
UH REMAINS AT NO. 14
The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team held on to its No. 14 ranking in the College Sports Television/ American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 15 poll announced yesterday.
The 3-13 Warriors were swept in two matches by top-ranked Pepperdine (16-1) last week.
UH hosts No. 8 Cal State Northridge (12-9) Friday and Saturday.
GOLF
HAWAI'I IN FOURTH
The University of Hawai'i men's golf team shot a 12-over-par 588 and stands in fourth place going into today's final round of the Fresno State Lexus Classic at Fresno, Calif.
San Diego State leads the 15-team tournament at 12-under 564.
Hawai'i's Kyle Walters (76-68—144) is tied for ninth at even par at the Sunnyside Country Club.
Other UH golfers are: Travis Toyama (78-70—148, t-20th), Pierre-Henri Soero (72-78—150, t-33rd), Ryan Perez (79-73—152, 44th), Cody Wolfenbarger (76-77—153, t-51st) and Cody Pewarchuk (76-78—154, t-59th).
UC Irvine's Jay Choe (68-73) and SDSU's Aaron Goldberg (71-70) and Adam Porzak (68-73) are tied for the lead at 3-under 141.

GRAND CANYON LEADS
The Hawai'i-Hilo and Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's golf teams are in eighth and 10th place, respectively, after the first day of the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational yesterday at Livermore, Calif.
Grand Canyon (584) leads the 11-team tournament at the par-72 Poppy Ridge Golf Club. The Vulcans shot 611, and the Seasiders totaled 670.
Sonoma State's Jarin Todd leads the tournament with a 4-under-par 140.
The tournament concludes today.
