    KEY SENATE VOTES

    1. 9/11 COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS

    The Senate voted 60-38 on Tuesday to pass legislation to implement several homeland security recommendations made by the 9/11 Commission. The bill addresses first responders, air cargo and port security, among other security issues.

    The House earlier passed a similar version. President Bush has threatened to veto the bill over collective bargaining rights for airport screeners.

    2. IRAQ WAR RESOLUTION

    The Senate voted to reject Democratic legislation requiring withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq beginning in 120 days. The 48-50 vote was 12 votes short of the 60 needed for passage.
