Cop a squat at a table or beanbag chair at Cupola tonight and catch pianist Rich Crandall and a few of his jazz player friends performing live. This year, no fewer than 39 fright films have been scheduled, according to tracking company Media By Numbers. From 2004 to 2006, the average was 20. That means fierce competition every weekend this year to spook crowds.
