Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant quietly opened last week at Ala Moana Center after roughly a year of construction delays.
The business, named after Tokyo's famous Tsukiji Fish Market, is primarily a 350-seat restaurant but also features a small retail area selling fresh fish and made-to-order poke.
The restaurant's sushi bar and $18 all-you-can-eat buffet opened last Thursday. The fish counter has begun selling local fish, and next week is slated to start flying in more exotic species from Japan twice a week.
Also scheduled to open next week are dining bars for yakitori (flame-grilled chicken) and robatayaki (other flamed-grilled foods, including vegetables, musubi, seafood and pork).
Initially, the restaurant owned by Ken Mitsusune had been expected to open early last year.
Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant is on the mall's fourth level. The restaurant is open daily for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fish market is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
