The Kawaikui Beach Park restrooms will be out of commission for about five weeks while the city's contractor for the Niu Valley force main sewer project reroofs and makes improvements to the building.
Work began this week.
The force main project, which began in January, is on schedule, said Ken Kawahara, city Department of Environmental Services spokes-man. The city hopes to be done with the project to underground the 3,300-foot-long pipe by fall.
The above-ground pipe, which runs down Kalaniana'ole Highway, was put in after the sewer pipe repeatedly burst in the same spot in 2005.
