Want talk-show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres to come to Hawai'i? Through her new "Wish You Were Here" project, a joint effort with AOL, she's asking people to send in videos and photos that show her "just how great your town is." The 10-week program concludes in December, with DeGeneres broadcasting live from the town she chooses. In the meantime, the hometown tales being submitted now will be featured on her show (3 p.m. weekdays, KITV). She may even invite participants to appear on her show. Go to ellen.aol.com for ideas on topics, and to submit your story. Put Hawi, Kapa'a, Kalihi — wherever you live — on the map.

FINAL WORD

"I've learned this, that haters wanna hate. You could sing a song perfectly, you could write the songs perfectly, and some people are absolutely going to hate you. ... On Top 40 stations, nobody cares that you'll have Fergie next to 50 Cent. They're different; why can't you have me next to somebody that's more traditional country?"
